Craig Morgan has a thing for chicken and dumplings, and he combines two of his favorite things -- comfort food and country music -- with the release of an expanded version of his current album. That's Why: Collector's Edition is available only through Cracker Barrel stores, beginning Monday.

The CD has already been upgraded once. He released it in 2008, then added "Bonfire" and "This Ain't Nothin'" to 2009 editions of the disc. The album also features his hit "Love Remembers."

The new Cracker Barrel collection totals 13 tracks, including two -- "You" and "Evel Knievel" -- that are previously unreleased.

"We have eaten in Cracker Barrel for many years, and we still do," Craig says. "When we're on the road, it's one of my favorite places to eat because I know what I'm gonna get. It's the closest thing to home cookin' you can find on the road."

Cracker Barrel's country store sells plenty of music, and it's particularly aligned with country. Some of its previous releases have featured Josh Turner, Alan Jackson, George Jones and the Zac Brown Band.

"I see other artists' records [there], and I'm like, 'Man, I want a record in Cracker Barrel,'" Craig says. "It only makes sense 'cause I am a country boy. I'm not a redneck, a cowboy, or a hillbilly. I'm a country boy, and country music and Cracker Barrel -- one and the same... So now that it's finally happening, I mean, I'm probably the most excited guy ever to have a Cracker Barrel album."

The chain is currently running a Craig Morgan Country To The Core Sweepstakes that gives the winner a chance to have lunch with Craig at the Cracker Barrel store in Frederick, Md., and see his show when he plays there Sept. 25. The contest, which runs through Aug. 15, also includes airfare and lodging for the weekend in nearby Washington, D.C.

Craig Morgan is the latest in a long line of country artists who have teamed up with Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores to release new music. The army veteran recently announced 'That's Why: Collector's Edition' will hit Cracker Barrel restaurants nationwide on July 26.

"Cracker Barrel offers the closest thing to home cooking when I'm on the road touring," he says. "Music is what I do, but country living is who I am, so it's really nice to have them both come together with my CD at Cracker Barrel."

The 13-song CD features some of Craig's favorites, including 'This Ain't Nothin' and 'Bonfire,' as well as two previously unreleased songs. In honor of the exclusive release, Cracker Barrel is hosting several contests with various prizes, including a grand prize of a four-day trip to Washington, D.C., lunch with Craig on September 25, and tickets to his show at the 2010 Great Frederick Fair that evening.

The singer, who is also hard at work on a new studio album, says his music pairs perfectly with what the restaurant chain represents. "A visit to Cracker Barrel lets you get a look at Country America all under one roof," he notes. Other artists who have partnered with Cracker Barrel include Sara Evans, Wynonna, George Jones, Aaron Tippin, Mongtomery Gentry and Dolly Parton.

Craig will team up with Aaron, and also with several professional motorcross riders, on August 7 and 8, as part of his annual Craig Morgan Charity Ride, which benefits the Craig Morgan Charity Fund. Held in his hometown of Dickson, Tenn., the event includes a group trail ride, an exhibition and an acoustic concert by Aaron and Craig.

Craig Morgan continues his staunch support of U.S. troops. A former Army paratrooper himself, the country star is a frequent performer on several USO tours, and is now putting his name behind another worthwhile cause for the military.

Not Alone is an online community that offers programs and services for military personnel and their families who struggle with post-combat stress, and aids in the transition back to civilian life through support groups, an anonymous hotline and several other methods. It's a cause near and dear to Craig's heart.

"When I heard about what Not Alone was doing, I knew I wanted to be involved," says the singer. "We can't sit quietly aside while our country's bravest are struggling. They put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms and they deserve to be honored and know that if they need help, they are not alone."

Acting as the organization's official spokesperson, Craig will be doing media appearances on behalf of Not Alone, as well as bringing awareness through his concert dates. He is currently on the road with Carrie Underwood, as part of her Play On tour.

George Strait, Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack are set to hit the road together beginning Friday night (Jan. 22) in Baltimore, Md., for one of the year's most anticipated concert tours.

For George, it took actually performing together for the idea to take root. "I'm really excited about this," says the legend. "I don't know why we hadn't done it before. When we opened up the new Cowboys Stadium, it was like a light went off. 'We gotta take this out on the road.'"

King George is currently scaling the country charts with the title track of his album, 'Twang,' while Reba has just released 'I Keep on Loving You,' following her four-week chart-topping success with 'Consider Me Gone.'

George and Reba will remain on the road together for nearly 20 shows, including a San Antonio date to be announced soon.

On Oct. 25, Craig Morgan and Chris Young will head overseas to join forces with Stars for Stripes, GAC and Armed Forces Entertainment to bring hard-working service members a taste of home. The Stars for Stripes tour will visit military bases and hospitals in Iraq and Germany for a series of acoustic concerts.

"This will be my sixth trip to entertain and visit with the men and women of the Armed Forces," says Craig, who was the first artist to perform on a Stars for Stripes/Armed Forces Entertainment event in 2003. "I know firsthand what it's like to be deployed overseas away from your loved ones, and it's an honor to be able to take a little piece of home to them with this tour. It is encouraging to see the advances that have been made over the years in an effort to establish peace and democracy."

"I have such respect for the men and women of our Armed Forces, and I am very excited to get the opportunity to go visit the troops in Iraq and Germany," adds Chris. "Most people will never have the opportunity to see into their world. I'm looking forward to seeing it firsthand. I want to tell people back home how they're doing, and I hope I'm able to bring a little bit of 'home' to the troops."

GAC host Nan Kelley will serve as guest emcee at each tour stop. High Five Entertainment will film the trip for a one-hour GAC television special which will air in December.

Chris is currently celebrating his first No. 1 single this week with 'Gettin' You Home (The Black Dress Song),' while Craig's 'Bonfire' is close behind at No. 12.

Craig Morgan wants on the B&D final tour

Brooks & Dunn have been tearing up the country charts since 1991, and when their journey as a duo comes to an end next year, more than few fellow country acts will be jumping at the chance to join Kix and Ronnie on their Last Rodeo tour.

Over the years, the duo shared the stage on tour with Keith Urban, Reba, Montgomery Gentry, Gretchen Wilson, Jack Ingram, Sugarland and Big and Rich, among others. But now that it's closing time, who'll get the call to join them on the last round-up?

Craig Morgan tells The Boot he's hoping it might be him.

"I'm just begging Kix Brooks right now ... to just please let me be with them," says Craig. "I'd love to go out with them on their final tour. I love those guys. I mean, they epitomize what a duo is and should be. Everybody knows there's behind-the-scenes stuff. It's tough when you have two guys working together, but those guys have perfected it. They've done such a great job, and they've been such great representatives of the format. I'm just real proud for them. They're real smart. Gosh, they've been doing it for a long time, and they're probably ready for a little break."

No official word on the duo's 2010 concert dates yet, but The Boot will keep you posted!

Craig Morgan's Bear hunting trip

Craig Morgan got a bit of a scare at the end of his recent week-long vacation in Alaska, and it had nothing to do with the bear he was hunting.

The "God Must Really Love Me" singer was visiting the Wrangell-Petersburg Census Area County, Alaska, with family and friends and posted updates on Twitter about the great time he was having.

But the trip home got a little scary.

"Just left Seattle had to turn around and make an emergency landing I'm back," Morgan posted early Friday night.

The singer was scheduled to perform Saturday in Tennessee, so being stuck in Seattle could have left a lot of disappointed fans if he couldn't get a plane home.

But the crisis was averted and Craig found a very late plane to Dallas that eventually got him to Nashville Saturday morning and in time for the show.

Craig's Tour Manager updated fans via Twitter Saturday morning: "For the ones who were wondering, Craig made it home this morning. He got a big bear. I'm sure you'll see it soon. :)"

And while Craig is an avid hunter, this trip didn't require any guns or bows. "We didn't hunt over food. It was spot and stalk on creeks where the salmon were spawning," Craig tweeted.

Craig Morgan - Farm hand

By
Randy Chase
@ July 10, 2009 5:27 PM

Craig Morgan trips all over his tongue when he sings about his "p-p-p-p-plower" in "International Harvester," but he doesn't have a difficult time in real life talking about his personal history on the farm.

The two-year-old hit goofed on the traffic tie-ups tractors create on rural two-lane roads, and Craig was able to poke fun at the topic because he knows it well.

He started working on his grandfather's farm when he was "old enough to pick up a bail of hay," Craig told The Springfield State Journal-Register in Illinois. And he continued doing those chores until his grandfather died.

"I was there every summer," Craig said. "That's where we went in the summer and on the weekends. I bailed hay. I've done it all: cut, crop, cattle. I've done it all at some point or another."

Recording "International Harvester" had multiple benefits. Not only did the song give him a bona fide hit, but the title also caught the attention of the combine manufacturer. International Harvester is now a sponsor of Craig's tour.

"As much as [the song is] talking about a particular style of tractor, it's really about a lifestyle," Craig said. "It's a lifestyle that a lot of people, I think -- I don't want to say take for granted, but they overlook. They don't think of that anymore."

While much has been made of Craig's history in the military, the time he spent on his grandfather's farm reinforces the image of him as a man's man. He also worked as a contractor, a sheriff's deputy and the assistant manager of a retail dairy department before he made his living on a concert stage.

Criag is busy on the road.   Look for him and James Otto together at Six Flags Fiesta Texas for the their Starburst Concert Series on Monday August 3rd.

Craig Morgan, Mark Wills Prepare For USO Tour

Singer-songwriters Keni Thomas, Craig Morgan and Mark Wills are spending part of the holiday season entertaining the troops during a nine-day USO tour of the Middle East. Hosted by U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Kenneth Preston, the 2008 Hope and Freedom tour will visit three nations and will also feature TV personality Leeann Tweeden, comedian Lewis CK and the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders. Thomas, who was a staff sergeant in the Army, said he understands the importance of such tours. "As a veteran, I understand what it means to have someone come visit you in a combat zone," he said. "For a moment, the soldiers are reminded that the folks back home haven't forgotten them. For a moment, they can take a break from the seriousness of what we are asking them to do on our behalf."

Veteran's Day reminds of security importance

U.S. Army veteran Craig Morgan says keeping our nation secure must always be a top priority.

"There's two things that are important in my life, and that's the security of my nation and the security of my family. And the security of my nation comes first. Most people would not appreciate or understand that, but without the security of this nation, I don't have the security of my...I can't take care of my family. So we have to make sure that we maintain a secure nation, and the way we do that is by ensuring that the men and women of the armed forces have the adequate tools that they need to ensure that they can accomplish their mission. And their mission right now is maintaining over there and keeping the terrorism at bay. I firmly believe -- I've said it before -- if it weren't for those men and women there, stationed there and standing ready there, then we would be fightin' terrorism at home on a much greater front."

Craig Morgan is among those taking time today to remember America's veterans. The singer notes that his primary concerns are protecting his family and safeguarding the country. He explains that these two things are closely connected, which is why the troops need to be a top priority.

Kellie Pickler is also expressing her appreciation for the troops. She visited Iraq last year on a USO tour, which she calls "the most life-changing experience" she's ever had. Pickler explains that it made her realize just how fortunate she is to be an American, adding that most people take for granted the freedom that come with being an American.

Craig Morgan says "That's Why"

By

Permalink | TrackBacks (0)

Craig Morgan says his new album That's Why may sound different than his most recent album. And the reasoning is simple - he was happy while in the studio this time. He says his mood is extremely important while in the studio since he's produces his projects and sets the tone for the band. This time, the band could feel his excitement and you can feel that in the music. "And it was exciting and fun and something I really wanted to do. I couldn't wait to get into the studio. And when you're in a pissy mood, which on the last record there was a couple of days in the studio when I was in a real pissy mood arguing with the label and what have you - and you know you go in and your all aggravated - well the band senses that and they're tense and they're less likely to be as creative and active."

That's Why hits store shelves today and is the first album from his new label BNA Nashville.  Check out the first song from the CD, "Love Remembers"

Craig Morgan Road Rage?

By
Paul Campbell

Permalink | TrackBacks (0)

With his new album, That's Why, in stores now, Craig Morgan says that the disc's title track is really all about the things we do for the people we love. Craig puts it in perspective with an anecdote from his own life about a frustration that all drivers experience from time to time: other drivers. Craig says, "I absolutely hate to leave Dickson, Tennessee, and drive to Nashville," but it's more than the traffic that gets to him, as he admits, "especially now that my wife has a new car, I get flipped off all the time." Craig marvels that people react differently to him when he's driving his truck than when he happens to be in his wife's Corvette, but at the end of the day, the notion behind the song -- and Craig's point -- is that doing some of the things we do, and putting up with some of the things that go along with those choices, is really just about looking after the people you love.

Banged-Up Craig

Fans have certainly come to know Craig Morgan as a great singer/songwriter and an all-around good guy, and many have also learned that Craig is an avid dirt-bike racer. As he prepares to head back into competition this weekend, he tells us that his love for the sport hasn't been without its share of scrapes...and broken bones. In fact, a couple of years ago, Craig pushed himself a little too hard after an initial injury, when a broken wrist contributed to subsequent accidents and multiple concussions. Just as he was on the mend -- and truly in the spirit of "you'll laugh about this later" - he now laughs, "after the cast came off, on the last race of the season, I broke my leg -- and a severe break -- ended up bein' in a wheelchair for a little while, and then on crutches, and just a horrible time."

Craig Morgan disputes the notion that people who live in or near big cities can't relate to country music. "You don't have to live in the country and have a front porch swing to want to swing on one," he says, echoing his single "That's What I Love About Sunday."

Craig will issue a Greatest Hits set on September 30th. You can check out his MySpace page to hear tracks from his next album, That's Why.
