While Lady Antebellum wind down their summer tour of fairs and festivals, they are gearing up for their very first headlining tour of their career. The Need You Now 2010 Tour kicks off September 20 in Orlando, Fla.

"We're getting together all our production and lighting details for the fall tour," Lady A singer Charles Kelley wrote recently on his Twitter page. "We're going to have some really cool bells and whistles that we've never had in any of the past shows. We can't wait to perform this show for you all."

It's a pretty hefty undertaking for Charles and bandmates Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood, as they just released their debut CD two years ago -- the critically-acclaimed, self-titled platinum record that gave them their first number one single, 'I Run to You.' Since that time, the trio had an amazing run at No. 1 with the title track to their sophomore album, 'Need You Now.'

Indications of just how well the tour might do came early this summer when the award-winning trio sold out the James Brown Theatre in Augusta, Ga. in seven minutes and the Muskingum County Fair in Zanesville, Ohio in just 15 minutes. The trend followed them throughout the summer, as they sold out the Midland County Fair in Michigan and the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. They also sold out their Shephard's Bush Empire show in London, England on August 11.

With all their summer success, it's no wonder the band can't wait to head out on their own headlining adventure! "It's actually going to be a real professional show finally ... ha!" Charles tweeted. " It's gonna be one of the greatest experiences of the three of our lives and I hope everyone walks away feeling like they've gotten to know Lady A a little bit better."

Charles, Hillary and Dave only have a short break from their summer tour before beginning the Need You Now Tour. They perform at the Atlantic Grand Ball Room on Paradise Island in the Bahamas on September 18, the come back to the states for their first tour date in Orlando on September 21.

The majority of the tour keeps the trio on the Eastern seaboard and Midwest, but they do a few West Coast dates the end of October. 'Red Light' singer David Nail will be their opening act.

Lady Antebellum rock London

Lady Antebellum had the best-selling album in America during the first half of 2010, and the group made its first headlining venture overseas last week, playing to a sold-out crowd at Shepherds Bush Empire in London Aug. 11.

Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood were a little uncertain about what to expect, especially because they didn't really know how Brits would respond to their brand of country, a music style that originated in the U.S.

"There is a stigma attached to country music," Charles told BBC News. "People say they don't like it, but things have evolved a lot over the years. I think people would really dig it if they gave it a shot."

The venue they chose is becoming a significant one for country stars. It was the same music hall where the Dixie Chicks became controversial with Natalie Maines' 2003 comments about President Bush. It's also the place where Brad Paisley gave his first headlining show in the U.K. in June.

Lady A paid homage to the locals by covering a couple of songs by British bands: Radiohead's "High And Dry" and the Beatles' "Hey Jude." And apparently fans in the U.K. liked what they heard. A reviewer for The Guardian said the band sounded "like Fleetwood Mac with Tennessee vowels." And the trio got a standing ovation from the 2,000 ticketholders at the close of the first show.

"We heard a British audience might be a bit more subdued," Dave said, "but they were louder than some of our U.S. concerts."

Things apparently went more smoothly in the U.K. than they did upon Lady A's return to the U.S. Possible tornadoes at the Illinois State Fair kept the band from playing on Friday the 13th. It's the first time they've ever been prevented from taking the stage.

Lady Antebellum Extends Pop "Run"

Lady Antebellum got into music in Nashville specifically because the three band members -- Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood -- saw themselves as country artists.

But if people who listen to other genres take an interest, well, they're not going to turn down a few extra fans. As a result, Lady A is an extremely interesting place. "Our Kind Of Love" is the third single from the Need You Now album, and it's in the Top 20 on the Billboard country singles chart. But over in the pop world, the group's record company is mining a track from the band's first album.

"Need You Now" recently spent more than 10 weeks at No. 1 on the adult-pop chart -- in fact, the song went back to No. 1 in Billboard this week. Understandably, Capitol looked for way to milk that pop success a little longer, but instead of grabbing something from the current CD, the label is working "I Run To You," a song from the last album, to pop stations. It's already won the Country Music Association's Single of the Year award, so the move should not damage their country cred in the least bit. Especially since Lady A didn't intentionally set out to go pop.

"When you're lucky enough to crossover and then you go after that, I think that's a nightmare," says buddy Luke Bryan, who co-wrote "I Do" with Dave and Charles. The band is, he adds, "smart enough to realize" they should dance with the genre that brung 'em -- and that's country.

Meanwhile, the ever-increasing attention from fans of all persuasions has created a lot of weird situations for Lady A.

"People wait outside the bathroom stall to shake my hand!" Hillary laughs.

"There's some obvious fear for the three of us as this is happening, as it's moving forward at a pretty rapid pace," Charles adds, acknowledging that it becomes harder and harder to maintain some privacy. "We're goin', 'Wow, this is really happening. What does this mean? What does it come with?' It's a scary thing, because like anybody, you've got your bad days, [but] you're always representing the band, even in the real world. So even if you got in a bad mood and somebody wants your autograph, you need to be genuine and stuff because that's what they expect from you."

Not that any of them are complaining about the increased scrutiny.

"We love it," Charles adds. "The fact that we have fans -- we still appreciate it."

The band is taking a little time off from the road this weekend, but Lady A goes back out to play for its fans during a four-day run beginning Thursday, July 8. They do three shows in a row opening for Tim McGraw -- in Pittsburgh; Camden, N.J.; and Bristow, Va. -- and they close out the string Sunday, July 11, in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival.

Lady Antebellum already announced that proceeds from their sold out fan club party on June 10 during the CMA Music Festival will be donated to Nashville flood relief efforts. Now, office supply chain OfficeMax has announced it is committing $50,000 to a fundraiser challenge as part of the fan club event.

"Our Nashville-based associates have participated in relief efforts since the flood occurred and we are very excited to join Lady Antebellum in doing even more for this community," says Paul Hertz, OfficeMax, executive vice president, retail operations, "As a company, we are acutely aware of challenges schools face in the best of times and we wanted to bring additional support to Nashville schools at this time of dire need."

OfficeMax will match every dollar donated by Lady Antebellum fans for Nashville schools up to a total of $50,000. OfficeMax is committed year-round to helping schools and teachers, most notably through their annual event, "A Day Made Better," where more than 1,000 teachers at 1,000 schools across the country receive $1,000 worth of classroom supplies.

While tickets to attend the Lady Antebellum fan club party may be sold out, fans can still stream the event live online through www.livestream.com for a minimum $5 donation.

Lady A has been heavily involved in efforts to help Nashville recover from record flooding and recently took part in GAC's Music City Keep on Playin' - A Benefit for Flood Relief at the historic Ryman Auditorium where more than $1.8 million dollars was raised. Fresh off their award-winning season, including taking home an ACM and CMA Award for Vocal Group of the Year among other honors, Lady Antebellum are getting ready to launch their first headlining tour. And the trio -- comprised of Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood -- couldn't be happier.

"I feel like we were just writing songs for our very first show at this small club in Nashville, "Hillary says. "I can remember being so nervous to perform in front of just a handful of people that night and to think now we're beginning to headline our very own tour is unbelievable. We have our fans to thank for following us every step of the way!"

The tour will kick off Sept. 20 and cover 35 cities, with David Nail along as the opening act. The first series of dates and cities will be announced on Monday, May 24.

Lady Antebellum have also been enjoying phenomenal chart success. Their 'Need You Now' album has now been at the top of the charts for a whopping 16 weeks, selling more than two million copies. Their latest single, 'American Honey,' also reached No. 1 on the charts.

The stars came out in a big way, as did a number of companies and the American people when GAC presented Music City Keep On Playin' -- A Benefit For Flood Relief.
Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum and Dierks Bentley were among the artists who delivered nearly 20 songs during Sunday's three-hour live special from Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. The event raised more than $1.7 million as of midnight CT and counting.

Music City Keep On Playin' was the first national fundraiser organized to aid victims of a devastating flood that engulfed much of Nashville two weeks ago. In a scant 48 hours, the city took in over 13 inches of rain, more than the Middle Tennessee ground could absorb. The Cumberland River swelled over its banks, damaging some of the city's landmarks, including the Grand Ole Opry House, LP Field, Bridgestone Arena and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Rushing tides carried cars along dangerous streams, one portable school building was washed down the interstate, and more than 1,000 water rescues were performed. Many residents, including Opry member Jeannie Seely, lost their homes. A few lost their lives. But the city came together, with many of its citizens visiting other neighborhoods to help complete strangers sort through what was left of their belongings.

It was "so beautiful to see how the city has just rallied together," Lady A's Hillary Scott said from the Ryman stage. "I know we will get back to the city that we once were. I know we will."

Brad and his wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley -- who co-hosted the special with "Desperate Housewives" actor and Nashville resident James Denton -- kicked the night off with a $100,000 donation. Brad likewise chipped in a trio of songs -- "Welcome To The Future," "American Saturday Night" and a cover of Roger Miller's "River In The Rain" -- over the course of the evening, which also saw appearances by country stars Martina McBride, Kellie Pickler, Rodney Atkins and Randy Montana.

The show also folded in performances from artists that exemplified some of Music City's stylistic range: pop singer Sheryl Crow, big-voiced gospel singer CeCe Winans, contemporary Christian artist Jaci Velasquez, Americana act Will Hoge and acoustic-blues performer Keb' Mo', one of Nashville's newest residents.

Many of the songs took on new meaning during the evening. The opening line of Lady A's "Need You Now," with its reference to "picture-perfect memories scattered all around the floor," easily reminded the listener of the many residents who lost all their family photos -- every record of their personal history. Martina McBride's "Anyway" -- with its recognition that "one storm could come and blow it all away" -- was inordinately apropos.

When they weren't on stage, many of the stars took donations at the phone bank, where they were joined by the likes of Lorrie Morgan, Nicole Kidman, Billy Dean, Joey+Rory, Lee Roy Parnell, Dailey & Vincent, Julie Roberts, Marty Raybon, Whitney Duncan, Holly Williams, Bomshel, Katie Armiger, Nashville Mayor Karl Dean and countless others.

The Ryman proved a symbolic home for the special. When the Grand Ole Opry House took in more than four feet of water, the stage was destroyed. But one part of the venue -- a circle of wood that was transported from the Ryman when the Opry House was built in the early 1970s -- survived the deluge and, once dried out, will return to its spot on a refurbished Opry House stage. The circle carries a huge amount of history. On that little piece of turf, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline made historic appearances in its original Ryman location. At the Opry House, it's provided footing for such Opry stars as Carrie Underwood, Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson.

With the Opry House under renovation, the radio show itself is rotating through other interim venues, including War Memorial Auditorium, Two Rivers Baptist Church and the Ryman.

"The Opry didn't miss a beat," GAC host Nan Kelley observed, "but we have so much more to go."

Music City Keep On Playin' -- A Benefit For Flood Relief is still taking donations online at www.gactv.com/help or you can text GAC to 501501 on your mobile phone to donate $10.

If you missed the concert, look for it On Demand through your cable or satellite service through Saturday 5/22.

Lady Antebellum are getting ready to give fans in Central New York a free concert later this summer.

The supergroup's free show is scheduled for the New York State Fair's Chevy Court, anchoring a lineup that includes the Eli Young Band and Blues Traveler along with classic rock bands Blue Oyster Cult and Kansas.

Lady A will take the stage on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Admission to the Fair gets you into the group's free show as well as many of the other attractions at one of the most popular state fairs in the country. For more details, check the New York State Fair website.

Back home in Nashville, the trio will participate in the first national telethon to raise money for victims of the deadly floods in middle Tennessee. Lady A join Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Rodney Atkins and many more in GAC's Music City Keep on Playin' - A Benefit for Flood Relief' this Sunday, May 16 at 8:00 PM ET. The GAC broadcast will re-air at 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM (all times Eastern), with phone lines remaining open for people to call in and make donations for flood relief.

GAC will host the first national telethon to raise money for victims of last weekend's devastating floods in the middle Tennessee area. 'Music City Keep on Playin' - A Benefit for Flood Relief' will feature performances by Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, Rodney Atkins and a host of other stars to be announced soon. Celebrities and other volunteers will answer phones to collect call-in donations, with all of the money going to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee -- an organization that will distribute funds to those in need.

"Nashville has endured historic flooding, but we are resilient, recovery efforts have already begun and I am confident we will come out of this stronger than ever," reports Nashville Mayor Karl Dean. "Music is the heart and soul of this city and as such it will play a critical role in its recovery. This collaborative effort is just one example."

GAC's flood relief telethon will air live from Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium, next Sunday, May 16 at 8:00 PM ET. It will re-air at 10:00 PM, 12:00 AM and 2:00 AM, with phone lines remaining open.

The Nashville area suffered the worst flood in decades, when more than 15 inches of rain pounded the area over a 48 hour period. The damage, now declared a Federal disaster, is expected to exceed $1 billion. Thousands of people have lost their homes, most of them without flood insurance to help rebuild.

"Many of us have friends and family members who are just now beginning to get back into their homes to survey the damage and start rebuilding their lives," says Colin Reed, chairman and CEO of Gaylord Entertainment. "At the same time, support has come pouring in from every corner of the community. And now, we are reaching out on a national level to ensure that the people of Nashville have every resource they need to restore our city."

Lady A "American Honey" #1

While the Zac Brown Band are spending a second week at the top of the Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart with their single 'Highway 20 Ride,' Lady Antebellum slide into the No. 1 slot on Billboard's country singles chart with 'American Honey.'

Scoring their third consecutive No. 1 song with 'American Honey,' Lady A are also holding on to the top spot on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart for the third straight week with the title track of their platinum-selling album, 'Need You Now.'

Although the band are known for their songwriting -- including having a hand in Luke Bryan's 'Do I,' they didn't write 'American Honey.' "This is actually the first song we weren't a part of," Lady A's Dave Haywood tells The Boot. "We knew we had to have it when we heard it. We had to record it. It's one that features Hillary on lead. It's a message that we want to have out there. As crazy as the times get for our job and anybody's job, you have to remember when life was a little simpler and a little sweeter."

The band's Charles Kelley agrees, saying, "It's just a nostalgic song."

The trio is extremely busy this week. They're set to perform 'American Honey' when they appear on NBC's 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' on Tuesday (April 13), before heading to Las Vegas to headline the annual Fremont Street Experience concert on Friday (April 16). The group then heads to the MGM Grand on Sunday to perform live on the ACM Awards, where they are the most nominated artist with seven nods. On Monday, Lady A will take part in the all-star tribute concert to the most-awarded duo in country music history, 'ACM Presents: Brooks & Dunn -- The Last Rodeo,' which is being taped to air on CBS in May.

Lady A talks tattoos and American Idol

Okay, let's just get this out of the way first, Dave Haywood has a tattoo on his derriere, something I'm sure I will never get a picture of (and not too sure I'd want it if I was given it).  Now onto the other two Lady A'ers with more visible ink.

Charles Kelley tells The Boot that his tattoo on his right arm is a phrase with a meaning for him. "It says 'All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise.' It's from 'Blackbird,' a song by the Beatles."

"We had just had such an amazing year. All these things had started to happen and I had such an interesting journey. I felt like my whole life had been leading up to this."

Hillary has the number 14 tattooed on her right wrist (she also has a tattoo of a musical note on her foot you can see here).  She says the #14 has meaning to her for a couple of reasons.  "It is a special number to me. That is the age difference in me and my only sibling, me and my little sister. I want to be like her when I grow up; she's very confident in who she is and her personality and she's just amazing.

"And 14 is how old I was when I really felt called to sing and do this for a living, so it's a constant reminder of being called to do this and the importance of that. Plus my little sister is with me all the time."

And what about that Dave Haywood ass-ink?  It may or may not be true, Lady A's publicist stepped in before Dave could actually speak about it.

Spoil sport. If you're into tattoos you can check out my Nashville Ink section here.

And while I'm talking about the trio, here they are chatting with Sirius XM where they defend American Idol because talent is talent, no matter how it's found.

"Man, talent's talent's talent," Charles Kelley says. "I mean, it's so hard to get a break. I think that show honestly is one of the greatest things. I truly do."

The video for Lady A's single, 'American Honey,' world premiered exclusively on Oprah.com on Friday morning. The clip is the first music video the talk show host has ever debuted, and its premiere coincides with the trio's first appearance on Oprah's television show, on which they performed a medley of their No. 1 hits 'Need You Now' and 'Run to You.'

"We knew we had to have it when we heard it," Lady A's Dave Haywood tells The Boot. "It's one that features Hillary on lead. And I think it's a message that we want to have out there that as crazy as the times get for our job and anybody's job, you have to remember when life was a little simpler and a little sweeter." 'American Honey' is the second single from their 'Need You Now' album; the first single and title track held court at the top of the country charts for five weeks.

Lady Antebellum is currently out with Tim McGraw on his Southern Voice tour, and they hit Roanoke, Va. on Friday and Huntington, W.V. on Saturday.

Lady A's Emotional Rollercoaster Pays Off

Lady Antebellum's chart-topping album, 'Need You Now,' looks at love from both sides of the spectrum ... And if the subject matter seems to range from romantic ecstasy to downright heartbreak and pain, that's exactly what the trio was going for, according to Charles Kelley.

Charles says that while he was in newly-wedded bliss, the group's Hillary Scott was experiencing the opposite end of the emotional scale, which added a lot to the album. "I just got married ... I was definitely feeling in that romantic place. But people don't want to hear a whole record about that. We don't either," Charles tells the Toronto Sun. "And at the same time, Hillary was going through a lot of stuff. That's where 'Ready to Love Again' and some of the other songs about having to pick yourself back up came from. So we ended up with a balanced record."

In her own defense, though, Hillary tells The Boot that it's not as bad as all that. "We don't want people thinking I'm really going through a rough time with all the heartbreak songs!" she says with a laugh. "I'm not bi-polar!"

"Hillary writes a lot of depressing songs, and she's the sweetest, most happy person I've ever met," adds Charles. He tells the Sun this year will be a big building year for the band, as they ratchet up their production a notch and take steps towards going out on their own as a headlining act.

Lady A gets a big #1

As if winning a Grammy wasn't enough to keep Lady Antebellum riding high, the group has more reason to celebrate. The trio's sophomore album, 'Need You Now,' has debuted in the No. 1 position on Billboard's multi-genre Top 200 chart, with first-week sales of more than 480,000 units. It's the biggest debut sales week for any album since Susan Boyle's 'I Dreamed a Dream' moved 701,000 units in its first week in November 2009, and the best first-week sales for a country disc since Taylor Swift's 'Fearless' in 2008.

"We are absolutely stunned. The love and support we were feeling last week from the fans and everyone around us was so incredible," says Lady A's Dave Haywood. "These songs are about our lives; they're really personal. And to be getting such awesome feedback from everyone who bought the record is so validating."

On Sunday night, the trio took home a Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group for the No. 1 hit 'I Run To You.' Following their performance of the new album's title track -- and multiple-week No. 1 smash -- 'Need You Now' on the awards show, the song topped the iTunes digital singles chart encompassing all musical genres.

"We were so focused on making that Grammy performance the best it could possibly be," says Hillary Scott. "We put all of our emotions into it, and really just went for it. We'll never forget what an amazing week we had!"

Lady Antebellum are likely to smash sales expectations with their sophomore effort 'Need You Now' this week. The album is headed for a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 chart and is looking to sell more than originally thought.

On the day of the album's release (Jan. 26), industry executives felt it would sell around 325,000 copies, but as days went by, the projections went up to 350,000 and then grew to as much as 425,000 during the disc's first week of release. Whatever the sales numbers, the three had a lot more experience to draw from for this second record -- both professionally and personally.

"We wrote a lot," Lady A's Charles Kelley tells The Boot. "A whole lot, and you know, we wrote a lot of crap too ... the hardest thing is once you've had a little success, is then you go, 'OK, now I know what radio's wanting. I'm gonna write a radio hit.' And ... the best songs are the ones when you're not trying, and so the hardest thing for us was to go out there and go, 'Hey guys, let's write to write. Let's not try to write a radio song." So that was a challenge."

"This record," Charles continues, "we went and found a couple of really strong songs that we didn't write, and I'm just as proud of those as I am of the ones we wrote. And again, we're storytellers and not everything has to be a personal experience, but something you can relate to."

The lone female of the group, Hillary Scott, adds the personal touch. "The three of us have gotten a lot closer, 'cause we've gotten to know each other a lot better," she explains. "We've spent so much time together, and then we've all gone through things in our own personal lives to make us grow as individuals. Charles got married, I was in a relationship and got my heart completely broken, and Dave [Haywood] has had his personal experiences too, so we had all those things to pull from to bring to the table too."

High sales numbers are certainly rare these days, in any music format, and the last country album to debut with at least 400,000 copies sold was Taylor Swift's 'Fearless,' which came in at the top of the Billboard chart with 592,000. Lady A's self-titled 2008 debut came it at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart and scored a Top 5 debut (No. 4) on the Billboard 200. The final numbers for 'Need You Now' will be released tomorrow (Feb. 3).

***UPDATE***

Lady A's first week sales 480,922.

Lady Antebellum have just released their sophomore album, 'Need You Now,' and the trio remain amazed at the response the title track is still getting.

The five-week chart-topper was definitely a topic of intense discussion between the recent Grammy winners and executives at their record label. "The response from the get-go was so big," Charles Kelley tells The Boot. "I remember even having some conversations with the label and people were [saying], 'Oh no, hope they don't get offended by the 'I'm a little drunk and I need you now' [line]. And I [said], 'But that's honest! We're talking about country radio, right? What happened to the old Waylon [Jennings] songs and stuff and people said what [they felt]?' It's storytelling."

Lady A's Dave Haywood agrees, saying, "The three of us have been there, too. I mean, we've been in serious relationships and when you get out of that, all you want is that person next to you." Dave tells The Boot his parents are big supporters of the song, even with its pretty salacious lyrics. "My dad [said], 'Son, I love that song.' And [I said], 'Dad, what are you talking about?' He [said], 'I've been there.' When somebody that's 55 says that and then people our age understand it too, then maybe we struck a chord with something."

They definitely did strike a chord, and in fact, the group feels it could be their career song. "We thought 'Run to You' [the group's Grammy winner] was our career song," exclaims Charles. "But honestly, after 'Need You Now' came out and to see what it's done for us. It's been really, really, really, really huge for our career, and we're just really proud of it." [Really, Charles? We really wouldn't have guessed! Really!]

Lady Antebellum's 'Need You Now' album is out now. Charles, Dave, and third member Hillary Scott will definitely be playing some tracks from the new project when they hit the road with Tim McGraw for the superstar's 'Southern Voice' tour, which kicks off Feb. 11 in Omaha, Neb.

Lady Antebellum's sophomore album 'Need You Now, was released this week, giving the trio their first taste of crossover success as the title cut from that album climbs the Adult Contemporary chart. But while they appreciate the widening appeal of their music, it's still the approval of their country heroes they seek the most.

"I really do care what George Strait thinks of us," Charles Kelley tells Nashville's Tennessean newspaper. "I care what Reba [McEntire] thinks. I want Keith Urban to listen to our record and come up and say, 'What a song.' We want that stamp of approval from the superstars saying we're representing this genre well because they know it better than we know it. And, we want to play stadiums."

Performing at this Sunday's Grammy Awards, where they are also nominated in two categories, Charles says they are all extremely grateful. "It is a giant opportunity, especially being a country act," he tells The Boot. "And to have Zac Brown and Taylor Swift performing, too, it's going to be a great night for country."

The Grammy Awards will be televised live on CBS this Sunday, Jan. 31.

Lady A gets some LOVE

Lady Antebellum will be all over the place next week as their sophomore album, 'Need You Now' gets ready to drop on Tuesday (Jan. 26). But a particular celebrity-gossip blog that gave the trio a surprise shout-out got the party started a little early for Charles, Hillary and Dave.

PerezHilton.com gave Lady A the coveted "Quote of the Day" honor on Friday (Jan. 22), which is hardly shocking, since the recent soundbite from Charles Kelley actually had more to do with the self-professed "queen of all media" than the group itself!

"I guess people are hoping for big things," Charles said in reference to the anticipation surrounding the new album's release. "We're out here at the shows, and they're connecting, but it's not like we're on Perez Hilton! Until Perez Hilton blogs about you, I guess you're not famous yet!"

The group quickly took to Twitter and included a screencap of their monumental achievement along with a thank-you to the controversial blogger.

Well, you may now consider yourselves famous, guys, but we'd like to add that "we knew you when."

Lady Antebellum are among the acts performing at a tribute concert honoring Neil Young as the 2010 MusiCares Person of the Year. The event's lineup of musical talent has Lady A giggling like starstruck teenagers. "I'm so excited about that," Charles Kelley tells The Boot, turning to his bandmates and adding, "I was thinking about that, guys ... We need to rehearse! We're going to sing a song, 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart.' It's gonna be really exciting for us. I mean the lineup, too, that night ...."

"I saw Elton John [on the list] and fainted!" a beaming Hillary Scott interjects.

The event, which takes place Jan. 29 in Los Angeles, will also feature such artists as Jackson Browne, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Sheryl Crow, Emmylou Harris, John Mellencamp, Josh Groban (another of Hillary's favorites), Red Hot Chili Peppers, James Taylor and Patty Griffin. So, with that kind of lineup, Charles asks, "How in the world we got the invite, I don't know. Maybe good management?"

We think it has to do with their amazing talent and possibly their two Grammy nominations for Best Country Performance by a Group or Duo and Best Country Song for 'I Run to You.'

Lady Antebellum have put the finishing touches on their much-anticipated sophomore album, 'Need You Now,' due in stores Jan. 26.

"We touch on a lot of really personal things in these songs," reveals Lady A's Charles Kelley. "There's a lot of emotion ... there's love, heartache, nostalgia, vulnerability, happiness and hopefulness. We hope that fans will get to know us even better when they listen to it."

In addition to their multi-week No. 1 title track, 'Need You Now,' the collection also features Lady Antebellum's current single, 'American Honey.'

'Need You Now' Track Listing:

The story behind Lady A's "Need You Know"

Charles Kelley tells The Boot about the day he and fellow Lady Antebellum members Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood wrote their No. 1 smash, 'Need You Now,' with Josh Kear.

"I had a writing appointment with Josh Kear, Dave and Hillary, and my wife didn't want me to write that day, because it was her birthday. She was so upset that I was going to keep my writing appointment. We already had another song halfway done, so we finished that first. Then Josh asked what else we had. So we actually wrote two songs that day.

I'd been fooling around with this little guitar melody at home and had that first line, 'Picture perfect memories scattered all around the floor.' But I didn't have a chorus melody. I played what I had for Josh, and everybody liked it, so we just started writing. Everybody brought in a little piece of that song after I started playing some of the basic chords. But I'm not that great of a guitar player, so I put the guitar back in Dave's hands. And with his expert knowledge, he just took it to the next level. That's the beautiful thing about co-writing. I had that little piece of melody, but I told Hillary it would probably be a more beautiful melody if she sang it.

A lot of times you'll be mumbling things when you're writing, and something like that first line will come out ... and then you'll immediately put yourself in that place. You may not be going through that in the moment, but you're able to put yourself in one of those times you were going through something like that. That's kind of how the three of us write together. We'll sit there and come up with some melodies, and Hillary and myself will be mumbling words over it ... and then something will happen. We'll say something, and we'll start writing a song around it.

After we had the chorus, we started toying with the idea -- what if now, from a man's perspective, he comes in and says his part? We were a little worried though, about that one line: 'It's a quarter after one, and I'm a little drunk' ... We were wondering if it was OK to say that!

It was one of those songs that came together really quickly. But truthfully, I don't think we really knew what we had when we walked out of there that day! We thought we'd just written a couple of good songs.

Looks like the sophomore slump won't be a problem for Lady Antebellum. "Need You Now," the title cut and first single off their upcoming CD, is already the fastest-rising single of their career thus far. It's currently a Top 10 Billboard hit.

So what exactly can fans expect from Need You Now, to be released Jan. 26, 2010?

"This song, and what we've finished of the new album so far, is all about passion," says guitarist/vocalist Dave Haywood.  "There's a real sense of urgency and fire, almost like a spark has reignited us creatively in the studio...so when we started talking about album titles, 'Need You Now' felt like it summarized our vibe right now perfectly."

Lady A's self-titled debut CD is already platinum in the U.S. and gold in Canada. Additionally, 18 months after its release, it has never slipped from the Top 10 on the iTunes country chart.

"This is just beyond anything we ever could have imagined when we sat down to write our first song together in 2006," said an overwhelmed Hillary Scott after hearing about their platinum status.  "I wish we could thank every one of the fans personally -- that would be the coolest thing in the world for us.   Everybody always says they have the best fans in the world, but 'everybody' hasn't met Lady A's fans. They are truly the best!"

Lady A is the CMA's reigning New Artist of the Year. This year at the 43rd Annual CMA Awards, they're nominated for Vocal Group of the Year and Single of the Year for "I Run To You."

While today's politically-charged, socially aware climate offers songwriters much more to write about than the usual romantic pursuits, don't expect Lady Antebellum to jump on that bandwagon any time soon. Lady A's Hillary Scott, along with bandmates Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood seem quite happy to stick with the old adage, "write what you know."

"The three of us don't know enough about those things to feel intelligent enough to back it up if we write about it," Hillary tells Canada's National Post.

"Also, our lives are so exposed, everyone knows everything about us," she adds "There are some things I want to keep to myself. Politics is one of them." (Of course, that doesn't stop fans (or the paparazzi) from trying to find out more.

For her part, though, Hillary says, "I just want to write about love. I think that's the heart of life. If you love selflessly, that will affect everything positively."

That's not to say that being on the road with Dave, Charles, and the rest of the band and crew is a non-stop love-fest. Sometimes the 23-year-old can't help but feel a bit outnumbered - not to mention out-testosteroned!

"It can get so lonely out here," Hillary admits. "Even if I'm in a group, because you live so much in your own head. There's 11 of us (in the band's entourage), but there's only one other girl. I miss my girlfriends. I'm around a bunch of dudes all the time; I don't know how many times I've heard 'she said' jokes!"

Lady Antebellum continues their Canadian trek this week with Kenny Chesney, and will return there in September, on tour with Keith Urban.

Lady Antebellum gets first #1

Lady Antebellum released its first single 22 months ago, and in short order, the trio became one of country music's top groups.

They did it with smart harmonies and memorable songs, though the band is also very aware that talent alone doesn't get people to the top. As a result, the three artists do not take their good fortune for granted.

"We definitely were in the right place at the right time -- I mean there's no doubt about it," Dave Haywood told The Oklahoman. "There's a lot of talented people out there, and why we worked and other people didn't, I don't know. I think in the country industry, there was just maybe a need for a group sound at that point of time when we were coming out, and it just kind of clicked, and it kind of worked. There's no doubt in my mind that it was meant to be because of the way that it's worked out. There's definitely a higher power looking over us."

Lady A is banking on a little energy to keep up with the good things that higher power has brought its way. The band is currently recording its sophomore album, and lead singer Charles Kelley is now officially a married man. He wed publicist Cassie McConnell several weeks ago, then held a more showy destination wedding over the Fourth of July weekend in the Bahamas, according to People.

Lady A livin the dream

Barely a year after releasing its first album, Lady Antebellum is playing to large arenas and stadiums this summer as an opening act on Kenny Chesney's Sun City Carnival Tour.

It's a big leap, and they're taking the opportunity to heart, particularly paying attention to Kenny, who's played to at least 1 million fans each of the last seven years. They're not just watching him on stage; they're also evaluating the way he runs his business, including the way he interacts with both his customers and his employees.

"He's unbelievable," the band told GAC. "There's definitely a reason he wins Entertainer [awards] almost every year. The way that he can connect with somebody in the very back of the stadium, you know, on the top level -- us trying to learn that has been the biggest part of the tour, and we're watching him every night and Miranda [Lambert], too. He also treats everybody so well, and that's another thing that we'll take away from this. I heard that the length of time his employees stay on is something like 10 years. That's the average of how long all these people have been with him. I mean, he's so loyal to his employees and treats them so well and that goes a long way."

Lady A is on the road with Kenny this week in Wantagh, N.Y.; Virginia Beach; and Philadelphia, where Saturday's stadium date adds Sugarland and Montgomery Gentry to the usual lineup. On Sunday, the trio breaks away from the Sun City crew to play the Country USA festival in Oshkosh, Wis. Onstage cohorts that day include Gretchen Wilson, James Otto and Jamey Johnson.

Lady A push on

Lady Antebellum is currently in the Top 10 on the USA Today Mediabase country singles chart with "I Run To You," the band's third hit from its debut album.

The CD went gold in February, but the trio is hoping its sophomore project will exceed the first one's reach.

"Hopefully it'll bust open the doors a lot more than the first album," Charles Kelley told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "We're just so excited about it. We've been writing a bunch for and we're kind of working on it right now, but there's still so many people that are just now hearing about us so we're going to keep pushing on with this first album. And we're just so thrilled with how 'I Run To You' has been doing. I feel like it's connected more than any single we've had out so far. It's just been a blessing and if we can keep doing this for the rest of our lives, that's the goal, so hopefully the second album will beat the first. We'll see."

In the meantime, Charles has another project in the works. He got engaged to Cassie McConnell on Christmas, and the couple is watching its wedding day creep ever closer.

"We've been waiting for this day for awhile," he said. "I won't give up the date, but it is coming soon and we're just extremely excited and looking forward to it."

The trio has three more immediate dates this weekend, beginning with a performance Thursday in New Berlin, Ill. They join Kenny Chesney and Miranda Lambert Friday in Somerset, Wis., and Saturday in Fargo, N.D.

Lady Antebellum got it going on!

By

@ May 27, 2009 5:49 PM

Lady Antebellum has quickly developed a solid relationship with its fans, but the band also has some interesting connections to a few relatives who've left their own mark on culture.

Hillary Scott is the daughter of country singer Linda Davis, while Charles Kelley's brother, Josh Kelley, is a talented singer-songwriter with a solid following. Dave Haywood has his own family claim to fame: His father invented the nightguard teeth-whitening method.

"He's a dentist, and back in the 1980s, he came up with the procedure," Dave told The Birmingham News. "He's been on '20/20' about it, and everything. In the dental world, he is a rock star. He's the Bruce Springsteen of the dental world."

Lady A may not be approaching Springsteen territory, but the band certainly has plenty to smile about. It picked up several major awards with its debut album and netted three hit singles in the process. The group is also on tour with Kenny Chesney and will be on the bill at Nashville's LP Field June 12 during the CMA Music Festival. They share the stage that night with Jason Aldean, Rodney Atkins, Luke Bryan, Little Big Town, Jake Owen and the Zac Brown Band.

Lady Antebellum can bust-some-rhymes

By
Randy Chase
@ May 12, 2009 6:39 PM
Permalink | TrackBacks (0)

Lady Antebellum's current single, "I Run To You," cleverly rhymes "faster" and "disaster" in a gorgeous melody and inviting harmonies, and it sounds so natural it feels as if it was something the trio just sort of threw together.

In reality, "I Run To You" was a difficult song to write, and Lady A benefited from working with Tom Douglas, who'd previously written such hits as Reba McEntire's "Little Rock," Martina McBride's "Love's The Only House" and Tim McGraw's "Grown Men Don't Cry."

"He had a lot of the lyrics already written down in this poem and we kind of pieced it together like a puzzle," Charles Kelley told Dial-Global. "Then we wrote the chorus along those same sentiments, but he had that opening line. It was just a fun write. I don't think we admit that a lot of times when just the three of us write, we're stuck in the same content lyrically, just because that's what we're going through. Sometimes it is hard for us to step outside the box and look at what's going on outside the world. Tom, he's one of these guys that's a lot wiser of a soul than us, and so it was a nice song to be a part of and really proud of it."

"I Run To You" has become the third Top 15 hit in Lady A's career, joining their first two singles, "Love Don't Live Here" and "Lookin' For A Good Time."

Kenny's "Sun City Carnival Tour" is underway

Kenny Chesney kicked off his 2009 Sun City Carnival Tour Friday night, and he's bringing a member of the reggae band the Wailers as he carts his award-winning music around the country.

The Wailers, of course, took part in Kenny's "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven" video and appeared with him on the Country Music Association awards in November. Kenny thought it'd be cool to add Drummie Zeb on percussion for the Sun City entourage, and Zeb was up for it.

"When we all jammed out at Tootsies [Orchid Lounge] the Monday before the awards, we played so much, we got comfortable inside each other's music," Zeb says. "I'm basically a trap player, but Sean [Paddock] was on the kit, and I saw some congas and figured that was how I could play, too. And I think Kenny remembered, you know, 'Hey, Drummie really rocked those congas'."

It represents another expansion of Kenny's sound. Last year, he grafted a horn section onto the band for the tour, and it's still part of the show this year, too.

Zeb "adds a whole other flavor, and it gives the music an undertow of what it feels like out on a boat, listening to the music drifting over your bow," Kenny says. "Drummie plays great. He fits in with the guys, and he brings a piece of this music that's there but isn't brought out usually. I think it's kinda crazy having a Rastafarian on the road with a country band, and yet it makes perfect stuff."

Also on the road with Kenny are opening acts Miranda Lambert and Lady Antebellum.  Catch the show at the AT&T Center Friday Night May 1st.

Yet another artist has taken a stab at the holiday classic "Baby, It's Cold Outside" -- new trio Lady Antebellum.

"We have always loved this song and thought it would fun to surprise Lady A fans with a holiday tune to close out the year," says guitarist Dave Haywood. The tune can be downloaded exclusively at iTunes.

Look for Lady Antebellum to perform "Love Don't Live Here," on next Wednesday's edition of Today.

Lady Antebellum.... Lookin' For A Good Time

Lady Antebellum's new song "Lookin' For A Good Time" is about when two people meet at a bar and have no intention of talking to each other after the night is over.

Charles Kelley says they thought about making the video very literal to the song, but that wouldn't be true Lady A form. So, they came up with the video you can now watch on CMT.

"[Charles] It's about how we're kind of helping this couple that has kind of lost the fire. [Hillary Scott] That loving feelin' [Charles] And put a little spark back in there as it kind of goes along with the whole reality, Ed Sullivan Variety Show. Honestly, we just wanted to come up with something a little unexpected you know. We always like to be a little left of center." Hillary Scott moves her hips during all of the performance scenes in the video and admits she was extremely sore the following day.

Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum turns 27 today.

Apparently he's not a fan of celebrating his birthday and according to band mate Hillary Scott, he didn't even realize his birthday was approaching until he saw it on a calendar their tour manager had written out for them.

And as far as a birthday gift he would like, well - he says getting two CMA nominations and a year full of accomplishments is enough for him.  "We've been so busy, I tell ya - not to sound too cheesy - but this whole year has just been like one big birthday celebration of coming out. A big birthday present of coming out. It's been a wild year and this is kind of the icing on the cake with what we do. So um, a lot of fun."

Lady Antebellum is nominated for Group of the Year and New Artist of the Year.
